For now, I needed something to keep it from bumping into seats and walls, when I travel. This material beaded the rain/snow, while on my way to/from the hotel during a snow storm - computer was very dry. The side compartment, like the title, is simple and functional - no holders nor pockets, just room for the accessories. The compartment is even big enough to a 10" tablet!
