I just don't know what to say. These are awesome. They have incredibly flat response, with neat range. Even if these don't specialize on the range you like, you can easily tune these with an amp to fit your needs. I usually never had to do it though. The build quality is amazing. These are super comfortable and durable. I used to have these in my teens, and I wasn't careful with my things. I basically wore these 24/7, even in my sleep. I even took these to school. These guys really held up. The thing with these is that they are so comfortable, I eventually forget that I'm wearing them. The only cons I've had with them is that these aren't wireless, so even though I took these to school I had to deal with the big wad of cables in my pocket. They also met their demise when my dog bit the cable. However, I understand that they are designed for studio indoor use, so it's really all my fault. For my uses, I'd get the m50x version instead. With a price like this, you really can't go wrong. If you're thinking of buying it, just do it.
Pros: Comfortable, Great Sound, durable rugged
Cons: No detachable cable

Amazingly honest

These headphones are amazingly flat and accurate. I use these when mixing and mastering recordings. The 45 mm driver extends very low into frequency without coloring the sound warmer as many bass-heavy cans tend to do. They won't break the laws of physics: you can expect bass to break up around 28 Hz but still be represented down to 20 Hz. Comfort-wise you might find these a distant second to your favorites, but they don't really feel like "work" headphones for the first hour. Build quality is high, and an included jack screws off of the cable to allow use with quarter inch sources as well. The cable spring on the jack is further evidence of a durable well built product. The cable is not removable from the headphone end, which may concern some, but these are serious headphones for production and having a stable connection here is one less worry in the signal. The sound stage is very neutral and transparent, and the level of precision and placement makes you forget the medium level of comfort. These headphones feature swiveling cups for one-ear monitoring and ease of carrying, and come with a soft bag for carrying. If you record, mix or master these should be on your short-list.
Pros: Fair Price, Flat Frequency Response, large drivers, precise soundstage
Cons: medium comfort level

Sounds Very Accurate

The highs are quite clear, much better than other headphones of the price range, such as the v-mode crossfade lp's. These have very accurate response over a wide range. They present bass well, not obnoxiously, and you can modify balancing easily on your console anyways.

Purchased these headphones after doing much research online and reading hundreds of reviews. I initially had bought headphones from a competitor but was not satisfied and had to return them. The M-50's were also in my price range so i gave them a chance and have been very happy with them. The sound quality is amazing, i am listening to music I have had for a decade and its like hearing again for the first time. I can hear things in the music i had not heard before. The bass is fantastic and definitely not over powering. The cord is very lengthy which is great when you want to move about while listening. They are portable and easily fold up into the supplied headphone bag. I would highly recommend these cans to anyone wanting superior sound at an affordable cost.

Absolutely Fantastic

As just a casual listener my review may not be the most reliable or professional peace of writing but anyways. I found the ATH-M50 strait cable headphones to be completely 100% the best headphones I've ever used, owned and seen as long as I've been interested in high quality audio. As a bass head every aspect of bass is important, from high quality and large bass capacity to it being balanced and not overriding all the other sound. The bass is absolutely flawless and doesn't drown out any of the other frequencies, the highs are crisp and not to sharp (I hope that makes sense) and the mids are perfectly balanced. The only problem I had was that they got a little uncomfortable but that was after 6 1/2 hours so I would expect that. Over all ATH you did an extraordinary job and I you continue being the best audio tech company out there.
Pros: Casual Listening, gaming, they got swag
Cons: a little uncomfortable after a while, cords a bit too long for me

These headphones are simply the best headphones I've ever heard. I always make it a point to try out new headphones and so far nothing has come close. I recently moved to Europe and was not able to bring my headphones with me, due to the bulk, but I love them so much that I decided to have them shipped out despite the cost.
Pros: Casual Listening, gaming

Good replacement for Sennheiser HD280

I have been a consumer of Sennheiser products for many years, I still have many Sennheiser products. However, as a recording engineer/teacher, I notice that the HD280 did not offer the quality of clear and concise sound that I needed during recording sessions--live and tracking sessions--so I went to my dealer at Full Compass for advice. The result was the purchase of the ATH-M50s. Instantly I noticed the clarity and the detail that the headphone offered; in addition, I did not suffer ear fatigue that I did with the HD280. As a result, my adjustments in mixing and mastering are more accurate and my clients and students are happier with the resulting mixes. I would recommend these phones to anyone who wish to enjoy music with comfort. The price of these phones are also very reasonable and competitive.

I have used a lot of headphones, but I must say my ATH-M50S are by far my favorite. Not only were they a reasonable price, but when paired with my high quality headphone amplifier, they produce the best audio quality I have found, even when compared to much more expensive headphones. Bass is strong and punchy while remaining well balanced. The midrange and highs are clear. My listening preferences can be described as "eclectic" at best, and my ATH-M50s have performed superbly across classical, rock, country, and jazz genres.
