A Stunning Collectible Doll

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Ken Dia de Muertos doll for 2024 is a gorgeous piece designed to commemorate Dia de Los Muertos. Our whole family was really impressed with the quality of the doll and the detailed costume and makeup. The box is also stunning. We used it as a display piece for the end of October and early November. It spurred conversation with my children about Mexican culture and the practice of remembering the dead, so in addition to being visually appealing, it allowed for educational moments as well. The only thing my kids were disappointed about is that I would not let them take Ken out of the box to play with him. Instead, this doll was and will continue to be treated as a collectible piece. This first year, Ken was displayed in the box, but I may take him out of the box next year and use the included doll stand.

Ken Day of the Dead is cool.

A great addition to a collectors set.

From the beautiful packaging to the fine outfit details, delicate face painting, everything is wonderful. Its great that there aren't any plastic tabs except the back of his head. So no holes in his clothes to take him out of the box. He has the regular articulation of a ken doll. A deeper skintone and darker hair. Under his cloths theres a layer of plastic to protect from the black dye staining the doll. He comes with a stand but can also stand on his own. The hat has to be positioned just right to be held in his hand. Also its a bit snug on his head and shifts his hair when you put it on him. It would be nice if the certificate of authenticity was in its own wrapping or even just a bit sturdier than regular sheet of paper. The boots also split down the middle to open and have great detailing. His belt looks like a spine! So cool!

"OH MY!"

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When my nine year old granddaughter ripped off the tissue paper surrounding this item she was thrilled to see the beautiful Dia De Muertos box. She opened the box on a kid size table making it easy to play with the doll. The design of this collectible box is amazing, colorful and exciting. Like most 11 inch dolls the 9inch by 13inch package is expected however, this box is 31/2 inches deep. She couldn't wait to see this Ken doll and said "OH MY!" with a huge smile on her face before even removing the clear plastic. She was immediately drawn to the clothes, especially the shirt which is embroidered and looks so nice on the black shirt. The pants have bright blue stripe down each leg surrounded by white pom pom trim. The same blue is used on the cuffs of the shirt and as a bow tie around his neck. His silver belt is nicely decorated with a silver skull buckle. The hat has a removable silver band with the skull at the front. She really liked the texture of his clothing and the colors decorating the shirt and pants. His face is painted with wonderful detail and she was surprised at how accurate the face paint was for a Dia De Muertos doll.
She had the doll do some leg splits which she thought were funny. His pants are very tight so sitting down isn't really an option but she had fun having him move around looking at the cardboard alter. The alter even has painted on items like the box. After trying the doll, she added the clip to the doll's waist and the pole and pushed that into the clear round base. Then she adjusted his hat and placed him in front of the alter facing the alter and away from it. She even added the top and bottom of the box to either side of the alter to make more play space. She also like the doll's hair. It is soft and rooted. His hat was a little disappointing because it is plastic and slides off when the doll moves too much. This sturdy box easily held the doll, alter and stand. It is so solid she put it on a shelf for display until she took him out again about an hour later. It's been 3 days and now she keeps the doll out of the box and plays with him. This is an excellent doll for a child this age or older.

Having the full set gives a great overview of all the product. He looks very well made and has just the right amount of personality to make the toy fun.
