Add one to your safety kit!

This really is a great product to add to your safety profile. It's small and light weight. It has an easy set up for a beginner and can be used for a basic safety back up or as a full on 'get out of crazy-town' emergency tool!

You don't need it until you *really* need it.

As a solo, young camper (who also happens to be a woman), the inReach has given my family and friends significant peace of mind. I'm able to keep them updated and in contact in the backcountry, or when car camping-even when there's absolutely no cell reception. I definitely sleep better knowing that help is one SOS away, no matter where I am.
I will say, some of the reviews I have seen from this are outdated. As of late 2022, you can now only send 3 (non-alterable) preset messages without it counting against your monthly limit. Previously, it sounds like you could have scripted as many different messages ahead of your trip as you wanted. Feels like a bit of a cash grab by Garmin. When I bought it, I was excited to be able to send prewritten messages like "refilled on water/food" to family while in the backcountry, as information like that is essential in case of search/rescue operations. I think if Garmin gave you the ability to create 2 more, unique preset messages-the inReach would be perfect.

Assurance when you are out of cell coverage

I live in Wyoming where the cell coverage is limited. I do a lot of mountain biking and camping in areas with no cell coverage and this lets me stay in touch with text messages. A colleague of mine was attacked by a grizzly and the inReach saved him. He was on a helicopter within 45 minutes of the attack. I always check before leaving and the mini holds a charge for many months.

Always on hand

I feel safe knowing I can always have something looking out for me and friends when hiking in the backcountry. It's easy to use and light as a feather. Clips right onto bag! I have had no problems with it since I bought it and I would recommend it to anyone who wants security and peace of mind when hiking alone. It is my go to piece of equipment when leaving the house for a camping or hiking trip.

The inReach Mini 2 was easy to set up and easy to use. While I did not get to use all the features during my last trip, it did perform how I needed it to when I did not have any cell service. GPS worked as it should and I have no problems. I would recommend this to any level of hiker especially those that are hiking in areas with no cell service. Keep in mind you do have to purchase a service to be anble to use the GPS but you are able to either use a yearly plan or monthly plan when you need it most. There is an activation fee.

Was able to stay in touch with family while on Safari in area with no cell service. Bought mostly for communication but the tracking feature is great when paired with phone.
