Peace of Mind
on March 1, 2024

Whether 60 miles offshore alone in my fishing boat, climbing in the Andes, solo hiking deep into Wrangell-St. Elias, or simply gator hunting in the local swamp, this has given me (and my wife) complete peace of mind. Suitable for anyone, beginner or expert, that spends time away from the cell phone towers! Great battery life and durability! There is a subscription cost to use all the features.

Absolute Must for High Adventure

There are more complex and robust GPS+messaging devices out there with more features. But the inReach mini has all the essentials. Just what you need for emergency situations while keeping things simple and lightweight. I agree that getting it set up is a little unique and possibly confusing, but after that it's really simple to use. I do a lot of rope-soloing, so I love having it right on my harness for peace of mind (and for peace of mind for family members), in case I were to get injured. I also take it on every canyoneering expedition and either just set up a series up way points to follow in series using the simple display (shows a bearing and distance to that point), or for more complicated navigation, I can open the companion app on my phone and get the full map and terrain. If you think you might want/need it, go find someone who has one and check it out.

Peace of Mind

I do quite a bit of adventuring on my own. Anytime I leave the pavement, my inReach comes along. Whether I am rappelling in a slot canyon in Utah or merely hiking out of cellular range, I have the peace of mind that I can contact my family to provide updates no matter where I am.
And should an emergency arise, I have the power of the most trusted name in GPS location services working with a rescue team to assist me.

easy to use; reliable; gold standard; i use this primarily for alpine mountaineering and backcountry skiing --- long days in the mountains.

A little challenging to setup but overall good

Setup is not as intuitive as the instructions make it seem. It took me about two hours to actually get it set up. Once I did that though it worked well.

Very reliable and long battery life!

It's very reliable and tough yet still lightweight and has a long battery life. Clips on to my backpack when hiking and you can't even feel it's there. I also take this offshore fishing with me where I don't have any cell service so I'm never left stranded. Lots of features but overall easy to use. There is a waterproof case they sell through Garmin to make it diver friendly so you can clip it on your bcd in case you can't get back to the boat.

A need for backcountry

Great product. Allows communication with family/friends from no service areas in the backcountry. Need to sign up with Garmin for monthly fee, but can turn off when not using.
