Benchmark product with no competition

This is a baseline product that has no direct competitor other than the gaudy and impractical Spot X GPS device. While other devices, such as Zoleo, enable satcom and personnel or Vic tracking, only the Garmin does so while offering on-device functionality as an emergency backup when power is out for days and phones are bricked.
This device is now widely used by UN and humanitarian agencies in conflict zones and for good reason. It's rapidly becoming deployment kit as-standard and procured at scale. It's compact enough, remarkably so, that 8-10 can go in per operator through sketchy customs in jacket pockets. If they ask questions, just turn on the compass feature and claim it's a digital compass.
It integrates with third party software including CalTopo for operational level situational awareness.
Great job Garmin making something stellar, scalable, useable, and lifesaving in major humanitarian operations. I made it standard individual kit for our large operation in Gaza.
I use it in the mountains too, and my mom appreciates it!

In any wilderness expedition, there is no reason to let your InReach at home. It's easy to use, small and has a great battery life. The only thing missing is topo maps.

Worked Great in the Canyon

Great GPS communicator. Worked fine in the canyons canoeing and camping down the Colorado from the Hoover Dam. Billing wasn't quite clear, but it is a rolling 30. Starts when you activate it. You can stop it and start it when you need it. Just runs a 30 days cycle. Texts easy to use connected through the phone app if you need it.

Very familiar navigation if you use other Garmin products. The peace of mind that it gives is worth every penny, and it makes meeting up in the backcountry with folks who have different work schedules much easier and safer.
