Garmin Inreach Mini 2

Extremely easy to setup and use, gives family and friends piece of mind and works well as a backup GPS to get you back to your starting point. The battery life on the device is also very strong lasting to the advertised expectancy within about half a day or so. The Inreach is a must for anyone tracing to remote areas in nature.
One downside is the cost of the plans for connectivity. Although all data life connection plans are expensive.

Used this during the 2024 Alcan Winter Rally. Worked great through Canada and Alaska. As long as it had direct access to receive a signal, dashboard, it functioned perfectly. Opted for the unlimited text plan, optional, to keep in touch with family. Great product.

Upgraded to Mini 2
on June 15, 2024

The Mini 2 picks up satellite signal quicker than the Mini 1 and the battery life is better (and it's USB-C, which is nice). I don't really do anything with the Mini's screen as I have it synced with my iPhone, so the upgrades to the UI didn't concern me too much. However, there are new navigation and TracBack screens which could come in handy in a pinch. The things I like most about the new version are the extended battery life, quicker signal acquisition, and ditching the Earthmate app in favor of Explore.

Great little device. It is small, lightweight and has a very long battery life. I take it out on long backcountry bike rides.
