The texting and location sharing is just as good as any other device. What really sets this one apart is its durability, ease of use, and on demand weather updates! Being able to request weather updates wherever you are was and is a lifesaver.

Hiked with the inreach mini 2 a few times in the BC backcountry since its recent purchase. The size is nice along with the clip. Communication is simple with the device. I would prefer water proof capability as I had to be careful when on backcountry lakes.
Over all, a great purchase that adds piece of mind when hiking solo or with family.

Very easy to use and works great for off the beaten path

I have used mine camping to check in and send location to family back home. The gps is nice vs using a phone and draining phone battery. Very durable as I tend to be hard on equipment.

Good for emergencies

I'm in my 60's and my wife was harping on me about going out alone, hiking and remote fishing, all the time. Now she has some peace of mind and I get less stress when I head outdoors.

Great tool to have. The texting and weather feature is real clutch to have, on top of the SOS button. Only reason I'm reducing a star rating is for the ease of texting, or lack there of, on the actual device. You can preset messages, but if you want to customize a message, it's a tedious process on the device. Or if your phone has battery, you can use the Garmin Messenger app via Bluetooth for an easier experience, but I don't like relying on my phone. Small, light, and a nice safety measure to have with you when out of cell service!

Great tool for communicating in the backcountry. Battery life & ability to send messages takes a definite hit when in tree covered areas, but if you can find open skies you would think you're sitting in a major metropolitan area.
