Works for what I need

I have had a garmin satellite device since the explore models. The mini 1 was nice but with the usb-c charging and ability to map on device it was time for an upgrade. I have used this all over the world as a safety backup as well as to communicate with friends and family when out of cell phone range. The messaging app is a great added tool and I'm still trying to figure out how best to integrate it. I also love that it pairs with my garmin watch when diving and my bike computer when mountain biking

Original Mini and app were infinitely better

I had the original mini and lost it and replaced it thinking it would be just as simple and easy to use. That has not been the case at all with the Mini 2... the pairing connection with the phone app is always messing up and you need signal to pair (not just bluetooth) so it doesn't work so well in the wild and out of signal when sharing between users. My husband and I used to trade it between us when doing solo adventures and now this is not a smooth process AT ALL and you virtually can't get it to pair without signal. Seems like Garmin is making it harder to use and harder to share as a device (maybe want to sell more so there is one for each person?). Routinely delays on sending out checkins and custom messages (in addition to not even appearing as sent in the app). Also custom presets are gone with this one. Booooo all around.

Great product for when you need it. A little difficult to get everything setup and the recent plan changes made donde functionality a little pricier but hope I never need to use it for it's core function.

Reliable, low power consuption, works when you need it

I've used this device for about 2 years on back country bike packing trips. I have come to trust that I can always count on it for knowing my exact location and for sending and receiving messages when out of cell range.
The weather feature is also really nice and has saved me from pushing on into a lightning storm, which I might have done if I hadn't had access to the weather data on the Garmin.
I will say that the Garmin UI is a bit clunky, but overall this little device is a must have on any serious out of range adventures.

Worth the Upgrade

Upgraded from the Garmin Explore+ to shed some weight and gain a few extra features. Totally worth the switch. The user interface is much better designed and the ability to us Garmin's Messenger is game changer.

An excellent tool for any and all outdoor sports in the back country! Super easy to use for messaging, navigation, check-ins (and id imagine SOS should you need it!). Only didn't give 5 stars as the rubber housing could be a bit more robust to protect from scratches and drops!

Easy to use stand alone or with your phone Bluetooth connected. Gives you everything you need to stay in touch, know your location, save locations and trails you've traveled, and have a way out if times get critical.
