A great investment in safety, nav & comms

Little difficult to get set up

Haven't used it offshore yet. It's very small and probably not considered a texting device but for emergency purposes it will probably do just fine. With more sell phone companies adding satellite capabilities i believe these devices will become obsolete.

Great for staying in touch on the trail

I use this garmin to let my family know how my bigger adventures are going. The check-in messages are a bit limiting, but I've come up with a system that works to let my family know how I'm doing. Breadcrumbs and custom messages are a bit more expensive, but worth it in certain scenarios. I trust this device much more than an iPhone with SOS satellite capabilities for truly remote trips due to the battery life, durability, and better satellite connectivity of the device.
I'm not a huge fan of the weather reports, but I've only used them in the middle of the rocky mountains, so it's a bit expected that weather forecasts are going to be a bit wonky.
I hope to never use the SOS feature, but after watching some youtube videos, I'm confident it would work if I ever needed it.

Even though I have not used the SOS button, it is really nice to be able to send texts to family when I am out in the backcountry.

Great device

I used the inReach Mini 2 during a solo work project in which there was no cell service or towns within 30-60 miles. I was able to send check-in texts to my family throughout the day so they knew I was safe. Easy to use and felt much safer with it my by side.
