Works Great in the Everglades

I used it for the first time in the Everglades. Check In messages are simple and quick to send from the device. Two Way messages are easy to send from my iPhone. The Messenger app feels just like normal texting. There was very little delay and every message was successful.

Peace of mind

I got this about a month ago. Learning curve took a while. Still can’t figure out all the features, but did figure out the text part and the tracking so I can use track back since I’m directionally challenged. I’m actually carrying it quite a bit for work as I frequently visit snowy areas that have no phone signal. So far so good.

Useful, practical, fairly simple. Limited only by having to use smartphone for full function

The Inreach is a modern classic tool for backcountry life.
I've used the Original Inreach in the field, tested the old SE model in town, and used the original Mini after Garmin bought out Delorme. I've used them in outdoor education & long-term backcountry scenarios, day hikes, hunting, and even played around with it as a bikepacking navigation assistance tool
The Mini 2 is a definite improvement over the Mini. For stand-alone use, it gets the job done for map-assisted navigation, SOS needs, and basic communication to the outside world. It's only real limitations for the full GPS functionality are the smartphone reliant screen-usage. Garmin keeps improving their app interface, but it's still a bit clunky to have a message app separate from the map app (I understand why you want them separate from a user interface aspect, it's just one more app to manage, navigate, and ensure it's up to date and not accidentally 'offloaded' if your phone is getting full on storage.
The pay-to-use communication subscriptions are annoying, but I'm grateful you can turn them on and off month to month. Garmin has certainly improved that aspect and I hope they continue to be more consumer friendly with subscription structure. If not, I'll ditch this and use the alternative options.
Definitely a great tool - just be sure you know how to use it, it's benefits and limitations.

Works Great and Family Approved

I have been using this for two months now and it is nice to be able to keep the family updated on my location and status. It has also been useful coordinating with others in our group when we are spereated and without cell coverage.

Peace of Mind

Always on me and charged. Battery last a long time. Makes me feel a little more at ease in the mountains between predators and rough terrain I know I can get help coming. Also piece of mind for my wife to be able to communicate with me. Shared locations are very exact. Its a great product for anyone hitting the backcountry.

Activation Issues
on March 4, 2025
Posted by: Kirk65
I am working with Garmin to activate my unit. The unit is built well, and easy to navigate. The battery life seems to be strong. Unfortunately, it is unable to connect during the activation process. Currently, the unit is unusable. I have tried to reset the unit as well as repeated the activation process several times. I was told that the IMEI is not on their record. Garmin has issued a ticket for the unit. I think the unit will be a 5 star if it is functional by the time I leave on my thru-hike of the AZT. It will be a "fail" if it can not be fixed...
