Awesome device..... It works when I'm out fishing and my cellphone service doesn't work. When I'm too far from home Hawaii, Molokai. I can still contact to close friends and family that I doing fine.

Painful to actually use

My family bought this for me. I have struggled to follow operating instructions. The size of the Owners Manual print is too small to be useful. I am an huge Garmin fan and I own several 12 “ Garmin chart plotters, Montana GPS, Quatix 7 smartwatch, Sportsman 302 Open with full Garmin electronics.

I live in an area without reliable cell coverage in many areas. Now I have a way to send check-ins outside coverage areas so my family doesn’t worry, and a reliable way to communicate should I wind up stranded! It’s on my pack for my hikes and in my glovebox when Im on the road. What a great device!

Was getting ready to go to the Grand Canyon and driving from Southwest Colorado knowing I would be going across the Rez with no cell service for quite some time, I went ahead and did lots of research and read a lot of reviews in the Garmin in reach mini two was my choice Much easier to set up than I thought, and then in my contacts popped up all the other people that had one which made me feel terrific Apparently, it is the most popular one! I owned many other Garmin GPS products over the years and I trust them implicitly!

Great Safety Partner

I've just finished my fifth hike with device. I bought it for safety reasons because I hike alone and cell service is not always available. I've steu the device to automatically start tracking when I turn it on. I also purchased the least expensive subscription plan that allows me to use the SOS emergency service and to send/receive 50 text messages by satellite per month. There are two hone apps that is highly recommended, but not required, to make using the device easier. The first app is MESSENGER, which simplifies the sending/receiving satellite texts, the MINI 2 device has no keyboard. The second app is EXPLORE, it simplifies and displays navigation maps on your phone. So the MINI 2 is an emergency communigation AND navigation device. It works, but the down-side is the user interface and tiny screen. It is certainly rugged, and the battery lasts many days. As far as I can find, most of its features are only accessible via the device, but these features are some-what hidden. You should practice and review youtube reviews before any big travels. The confusion of using the device is that from the so called HOME page, you get to options via a MAIN menu AND other options are accessed by moving through PAGES. The manual could be clearer and explain by example what some of the options should be used. It would be nice too if it discussed saving your hike's routes for later use. There are some clever features for example, sending pre-written text's which saves you typing. The software also allows you share your hike in real-time with someone. Soo much to still learn.
