Excellent for Backpacking

My buddy Dave and I broke my Mini 2 in on the Northville-Placid Trail in the Adirondacks. Excellent. Worked even in areas with tree cover. Extremely small and lightweight. Its great. Long battery life, never worried about the charge.

Good but limited

The device was very helpful for sending messages to contacts from Kilimanjaro and receiving their replies. However, I was unable to configure the phone to receive new messages initiated entirely by the sender. The inability to get email or voice calls limits its use as a business tool

I sent a test message to a relative and she acknowledged it. But I can't tell if she got the message via satellite or not. So I don't yet know if this thing works.

Great Little Tool

The InReach Mini2 is a nice change from the large Inreach. You can message people from your phone in the Messenger. The Explorer app is a bit of a challenge, but may be useful for those who want waypoints, maps, etc. The Quick Check is an easy way to let poeope know your location and that you are safe. Aa always, the SOS is a nice security, especially if you are a solo backpacker/hiker. Thanks for the upgrade into a smaller, easy to use package!!

Stick to the water

I ended up returning my Garmin mini. My family member has one, they use it on the river when we go up into Hells Canyon where there is absolutely no service. It works great for them to text the older kids that stayed home so we bought one for hunting camp. The delay when we texted not only each other on them but to people back home was awful. Even when we had them pointed at the sky with no interference, it would take up to 3 hours for someone to get our message. That does not work for us. We were up there for 2 weeks and ended up time stamping all our messages because the delay was so bad we never knew if the message was still valid.

User UN friendly

I thought this would be simple enough to use. I was wrong. You practically have to be a tech expert to figure this thing out. First it has to be paired with your smartphone in order to save any pre-recorded messages. Then you have to test it but if you're in range of any Wi-Fi or cell tower it uses those first so you can't really tell if it's using a satellite unless you look closely at how it was sent. If you need the satellite it can take up to 20 minutes to send via satellite. Scrolling through each individual letter and selecting each letter separately is a complete pain in the butt. Do not recommend if you're looking for something easy to use. It took me hours and two phone calls to Garmin to figure this thing out which is more than I spent on all of my other electronic devices combined

Double messages
on November 2, 2024

I do not understand why I receive repeated messages. Meaning the same message will from an individual will be received twice, one right after the other. So with that being said it counts as two. I like the features it offers but feel this is not right.
