Better than no comm at all

I bought 4 of these for my myself and forest crews who are typically in areas with no cell phone. Let me start by saying that these are better than no comm at all. However, there are some limitations (which Garmin made clear going in): heavy tree canopy or being indoors will block the signal almost entirely. It is best to be in a clear area open to the sky. We’ve also noticed that overcast days may be interfering with or slowing the speed of communication (but aren’t sure 100%). We use these daily with a pro subscription so we are still working out the limitations but generally speaking, I can receive texts (through the Garmin app) from crew leaders in areas with zero cell phone service. It is a much more affordable option than BK radio set up or something similar. Importantly, the SOS feature is there in case anyone gets into serious trouble and we like having that feature.

Phenomenal coverage, easy to use

I bought this for a trip to the Arctic Circle and could not be happier with the purchase. I was easily able to text with my wife to let her know how the trip was going - texts were sent and received within a minute). The -20F temperatures did not affect the performance of the Garmin at all (though I did get a few messages saying it was close to the lowest functioning temp). Highly recommend this to folks traveling to remote locations

Easy to set up. Plans are a bit pricey but you’re talking about your life which is priceless. Haven’t used it. Bought it for travelling and some hiking.

Confidence on the water

Took my first week Bahamas trip with the Mini2. The weather forecasts were a great tool for planning. The ability of the family back home to track my route gave them confidence that I was safe. Check in messages just reinforce all is OK. Won’t leave the dock now without the Mini2.
