Got It For Scuba Diving, But keep it in vehicle a

My wife insisted I get the inReach Mini 2. I got it specifically for Scuba diving. She saw a couple of Scuba blog posts about divers getting lost at sea. The most important reason for getting the inReach is if you get separated for your dive boat. And Murphy's Law is true, it does happen. And even being out on the ocean on any vessel, I have the inReach with me. I also take with me Skiing, in case I crash off a trail where no one may see of notice me. And even in my North New Jersey location, there are plenty places not so far out that cell service is limited. So I have the inReach in the car all the time.

Less user friendly than original InReach Mini
on March 3, 2024

Using the original InReach was a breeze - easy to switch between users between my husband and I, and easy to create custom preset messages that worked perfectly. Got the Mini 2 to replace the lost device and just getting it set up was a huge pain, hard to switch between people in the same household, and no more custom presets. Garmin wants us to spend more on messages I suppose. Idk but somehow they just made it worse and far less user friendly. Will be looking to sell and find a different device.

Cool tool for those who are on the go...Traveling, Motorcycling (my main reason for buy-ing this unit) and those who need the security of having help quickly. I have MS and carry it with me for added security. "Help I've fallen and I can't get up"...ON STERIOIDS! LOL

Was using the text service last week in the Grayson Highlands and it took forever to send and receive messages. It was overcast.

Perfect for the outdoors

I bought this because I ended up in an area with no cell coverage and was about 3 hrs late from what I thought I would be. Now having this gives everyone worried about me the piece of mind that I'm ok and they know exactly where I am.

Feeling of security!

I bought my Mini 2 a couple of months ago but just used it on a multi day backpacking trip. We had no cell service and I felt so much better being able to let family members know we were safe. And also, being able to check the weather was awesome! I love it.

The claim that the battery lasts 2 weeks is false. 55 hours has been the maximum.

Peace of mind

Been using for a month now and since hiking alone with two bad knees it has given my family some peace of mind knowing where I am hiking. It is a shame that Garmin nickel and dimes you with extra costs for almost everything. Tracking points along your route are helpful, but of course none are included in the base plan so you either turn them off or pay extra. Since I am retired and hike most days, this cost quickly adds up. So far able to stay under the 10 message per month included amount, but doesn't allow me to let anyone know status by message.
