At the tradeoff of not having as many controls in the event that your phone dies.

I have not had the chance to use it yet. But appears very well built and was easy to setup. Will be using on a deer hunt next week.

Peace of mind for me and the people back home
on October 17, 2025

I bought this about a month ago, as I was embarking on a roadtrip through several states and national parks where I figured service would be spotty at best, and more likely non-existent. Being able to send a quick "here's where I'm camping tonight" message to a couple of people back home gave me so much peace of mind, as did being able to communicate what hikes I was doing - and receive relevant information about park shutdowns as well. I haven't had to activate the SOS feature (and hope I never do!) but knowing it's there makes me feel much safer as a solo traveler.

Solid and Dependable Device

I purchased this three weeks ago. I am a solo hiker, and I wanted something that makes me feel confident that I can reach out for help if I need to. The mini 2 easily meets this need. There is a bit of a steep learning curve for the Mini 2, or maybe it is just me. I am glad I bought it and practiced with it 2 weeks before heading to the Grand Canyon. Even there, my navigation turned off when I stopped to charge my phone and Garmin watch. This was probably user error, but I am not sure what I did wrong. I love how it warns me that I am off trail. However, it gave me that warning when I was standing on the trail a few times. It did quickly correct itself. This feature still helped more than it hurt. I know as I become more familiar with it, I appreciate it even more. It does what I wanted it to do and even more. I am happy with my purchase.

Love my Inreach

I love my Inreach Mini 2 for offshore fishing and backcountry hunting. It is a game changer as far as being able to check in with family offshore or in the mountains and gives everyone peace of mind. The only thing I with it had was the ability to write messages on the unit itself without having to use the cellphone app.

Garmin inReach Mini 2 Disappointment
on October 19, 2025

I bought the Garmin inReach Mini 2 in October 2025 to augment a personal locator beacon that I have owned for years. The appeal of the Mini 2 was its interactive nature and especially because of its route Tracking feature. The Mini 2 failed to meet my expectations.
The first negative was an extended and complicated setup procedure. I spent more than 2 hours to setup and personalize the device. Given that there are many third party tutorials on YouTube about Mini 2 setup and subsequent operation one can infer that the general user audience for the Mini 2 is large and that many users struggle with Garmin's setup process. Second and most important to me is that I was unable to make the route tracking feature operate: the complete route was not displayed nor were waypoints that I manually marked.
My conclusion is that if I am unable to make functions work under ideal test conditions then I am not about to risk using the Garmin inReach Mini 2 in case of a potential life threatening environment. Regrettably I had to return the device.
