Almost never bring it

I go out a lot but i still never bring this thing because its a pain to set up and keep the subscription going

We appreciate the review! When using an inReach subscription plan, there may be times when service for the device is not needed. In these instances, the subscription can be suspended while a cellular or Wi-Fi connection is available. As of June 5th, 2025, all consumer inReach subscription plans have the option of suspending service for up to 12 months with no re-activation fee, except for inReach Annual Contract subscription plans.

I used this on a weeklong solo-hike along the Suwannee River section of the Florida Trail. I appreciated having the ability to communicate with loved ones while hiking in areas without a cell service. My family and friends enjoyed keeping track of me with the live map feature. It took me a bit of time to learn how to set-up the device and navigate the menus. I loved the battery life as well - keep note that it drains much quicker when there is a lot of cloud or tree coverage and when entering buildings/shelters.

Nice compact size

Recieved the InReach Mini 2 as a birthday gift as I occasionally go out into the woods alone and family wanted a way to know my location as cell phone service can be sketchy. My bigest compaint was that there were very limited instructions on how to set up a subscription on the device. After going on line and seeing comments by other users, I finally got it resolved.

Great way to stay connected for live tracking and messaging. Lots of people are saying the iPhone satellite feature has killed these types of devices but if you're used to long adventures in tough conditions, you know how hard it is to keep devices, especially phones, charged when doing live tracking and messaging requiring higher power. This thing stays charged far longer than I've ever needed it to last and is super reliable and trusted by the multiple agencies and sports I use it for (SAR, aviation, mountain sports).

I used this for multiple solo hikes in the mountains. I could keep in touch with my family no matter where I was and was able to give them peace of mind that I was safe.

Bought for elk scouting trip to SE Wyo
Was able to keep family and friends aware of our location and situation while in SOS coverage area 100 percent of our 3 day backwoods outing. Fairly easy to setup and use. Had a new iPhone 16 plus to compare for SOS texting. The mini2 worked 100% where the iPhone was hit or miss
