Cannot get the device to activate. Numerous attempts at reloading the app and starting over. Waiting for tech help. If I ever get this working, I will update with an operating review. For now this thing is useless

Very Helpful

Climbed Mt. Whitney a few weeks ago and was able to communicate with family and friends the whole time. They could also see us on the map and watch our progress. Slow as it was. :) Didn't need the SOS but was glad to have it just in case. I will continue to take our InReach for all hikes in the future.

Great SOS response

Only had the Mini 2 for about a month, and we had to use it this week. Some folks at a campsite in Glacier had an emergency, and we used our Mini 2 to send an SOS. The Garmin Response folks were very communicative and put us in touch with the emergency services folks. There was a storm where we were, but it didn't take more than a few minutes for messages to go out, unlike our previous SOS device (not a Garmin). Even with the Mini 2 on and sending messages on and off for three hours, we only used 20% of the battery, which I thought was impressive compared to my other device that would use 5% just to send one message because it took over 20 minutes for the message to go out. I also love getting the weather, even if it's not the most accurate because weather in the mountains is unpredictable. It was still accurate enough for us to make decisions during our trip. I also like that there is no charge for messages between you and the Garmin Response team.

So far so good

I've only been able to test this on small hikes around the area and not really gone off the beaten path much. But what I've seen so far impresses me with its functionality, connectivity and interaction with the Garmin apps. If you're heading out into someplace without cell service or if you're just looking for a bit of a security blanket when you need to head out alone, this is a good device. The size and weight are fantastic and I like the build quality. Just a bit of a learning curve because the screen input is all handled by side buttons, but I picked it up quickly and I'm sure most people would get used to how to use it quickly, as well.

Just got my inreach about two weeks ago. I had the pn-60w and spot communicator before, so I was familiar with how Garmin (DeLorme) funtioned. Happy to say that initiaing the inreach was super easy. Choosing data plans was super easy. And connecting to the Garmin Expore and Garmin Messenger apps turned out super easy as well. I soend a lot of time in the back country. So even my wife is thrilled with a much better form of communication and location tracking.

Too difficult to use
on July 29, 2025

The unit is so small that it is laborious to use. Difficult to understand instructions and operation. For example it seems impossible to add contact easily or at all to the unit. The owners manual is also difficult to use, incomplete and not user friendly.

Good for beginners and advanced. I rented one of these for my R2R trip last year and worked great. Tracked my location even at the bottom of the canyon and was able to text my pickup ride how close i was to topping out. Now with this deal now i’m going to buy it since i go out off the trails more.
