I got this GPS for my fiancé before he left to do a LASH of the NCT. It allows me to see his progress, plan resupply drops, gives me peace of mind knowing that he has SOS capabilities. So far the only downside is the tiny screen, but that was a willing sacrifice to keep his pack weight down.

Cool device to ease ones mind when adventuring

I use this when riding my dirt bike remotely with no cell service. So far it works ok, sending messages, pictures, and tracking. However often it does not connect over Bluetooth to my iPhone without rebooting my iPhone. This is annoying as I don’t know that until I try to turn tracking on.

I bought this as I hike alone a lot in Canyonlands in S. Utah and the Uintas where there is no cell service. The SOS feature is a very reassuring, even though I hope I never need it use it. The best part is being able to text my family of my whereabouts and status.

Great Hardware Difficult to set up.

I bought my InReach Mini2 about 2 months ago for a hiking trip to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. It does everything advertised, but the setup instructions are severely lacking. I still cannot receive texts from people with whom I can send texts. I could not get it set up to allow my daughter and son-in-law to track us. Still unsure how to minimize costs, as the unit lies dormant while we are home for several months.

I bought the Garmin inReach Mini 2 after seeing how easy a friend's was to use on a trip into the wilderness area in Idaho. I have used it from Texas to the Yukon and it is reliable, fast and easy. My family loves the messaging and location features.

Peace of mind for a female solo backpacking trip

I bought this for a 6 day backpacking trip through a dangerous trail. My friends and family were very concerned that I was going alone. Having this device allowed me to stay in touch and let everyone know I was ok. I also used the emergency SOS to get a fellow hiker rescued. I was grateful to be able to help assist and the process was smooth and quick to get connected to local services and get him picked up by helicopter. I'll be taking this with me whenever I go adventuring with no cell service! It held a charge well and using the app makes it so easy to use!

I got it for my birthday a month ago but find it difficult to create my own message. I can only use the canned ones which is ok for now but won’t be for long. Guess I’ll have to back and study some more
