I used the inReach Mini 2 on a 30 day, 250 mile backpacking trip through the Sierras. It performed as expected throughout. If you're bringing a cell phone and using it for your camera and mapping, using this is a no brainer. My friends and family were able to track our progress each day and most importantly, I was able to check in regularly at home and say goodnight to loved ones. I don't think I would've taken such a long trip without this connectivity.

Fantastic satellite communicator, also has a great trackback mode that is compatible with your phone via bluetooth. Functions great as a gps as well!

This mini2 is worth the upgrade over the original mini. The battery life alone makes it a worthwhile upgrade. The user interface is a welcome improvement over the original mini even if there is still a lot of room to improve. The ability to use it with the explore app changes the way you can use it quite a bit. This is the best satellite communication/gps game around when paired with a phone. It also makes so much sense to just toss this into a pack (or a kids pack) when headed into the backcountry - even if it never gets turned it on until it's needed. Keep your original, too, so you can communicate with each other in the backcountry. [Garmin, if you're listening, please consider adding a screen similar to what is on the Fenix Watch to the next generation of the Mini. Having a fully functional map, even if small, could drastically increase the usefulness and value of this little powerhouse.]

Easy to carry device for safety & emergency communication

Comes in handy to text on my iPhone via the App when I have no cell service and gives me great peace of mind when hiking, camping, or snowboarding out of cell service & wifi!
