Always Tracking

I was very excited to get my first Garmin, as I spend a lot of time in the backcountry. The need to connect with my cellphone prior to leaving is always a little bit of a challenge and requires forethought, but I'm useally mappping things out on Gaia anyways. It was a little difficult to figure out what my number was to give to people who needed to reach me, I would just send them a text message instead, so a little more guidance on that with setup would be helpful. I thankfully haven't needed to use it on a trip, but I feel secure knowing that I have it if I need it. I do like having the ability to send messages to family/friends if I'm running late and i'm out of cell service. I always recommend having a GPS device on you when in the backcountry, as you never know what you might encounter.

Incredible Device

Perfect for a variety of my outdoor activities, its super lightweight, easy to find with the red/orange color and easy to use. Set up and become familiar with it before heading out on your first trek so that in case of emergency you're good to go.

Have to have it for back country hunting. You need the unlimited plan for sure though for text messaging.

Great Little Safety Device

I previously had a SPOT beacon and got annoyed with it's difficulty connecting to my phone and satellites. This Garmin InReach is perfect. It is so easy to use and allows me to send messages to my family when I'm out hiking alone to let them know I am ok and where I am. My sister and husband also have an InReach for the same reason.
My sister recently popped a tire in an area without phone service. She was able to message me on her InReach so I could call AAA. I used the GPS coordinates from her message to give AAA her exact location. The InReach really saved the day! 10/10 recommend!

had a couple of issues getting messages out. it seems that there may have been a gap in satellites. Overall, works great gives piece of mind and is a great safety tool in the backcountry.

Backpacking Must Have!

I cannot recommend this product enough! I spent 19 days thru hiking the JMT (John Muir Trail) a few years ago. It is lightweight and easy to travel with. I typically strap this to my shoulder strap for easy access. I have yet had to use the SOS feature but I know a few hikers that have had to use it. Besides the sos feature this is a great way to give updates to people on your status through text messages and it allows you to receive messages as well. One of my favorite features is the ability for people to track your adventure in real-time. You can give someone your login and they can watch you through GPS where you are located and how much ground you have covered. Another great feature is weather updates you can access while on trail, which is very valuable to know what kind of weather you can expect that day before you break camp. I never leave home without it, even on shorter adventures. The funny thing about accidents is you never know when they are going to happen.

Great for peace of mind

Bought this watch for a backpacking trip in the Canadian Rockies where we would be off the grid for several days. It really helped give us peace of mind when our phones didn't work with things like weather forecast and emergency services if needed.
