Amazing lightweight device!

Having owned and used a SpotX for years, I had some frustrations with it and was curious about the InReach. Mainly, the SpotX had to be plugged in for updates, it was too large to place outside my running hydration packs, and keys have been popping off over the years. The InReach solved all those concerns immediately!! It was easy to set up, and it is easy to use. It small, lightweight, does not need to be plugged in to update, and there are no keys that can pop off! I have tested out messages to test and email and was amazed at how fast they transmitted while inside my house. I plan to use this for ultramarathon training, hikes, camping, snowshoeing, and pretty much anywhere I know cell signal will be weak. This is also an important device for me as I am allergic to bee venom, and one of my sons has a peanut allergy. If we are out of cell service, having access to emergency medical services is critical for us (although I hope we never have to use it). I am a fan. Huge peace of mind that this is the best and right choice for myself and my family in all of our adventures.

Solid piece of equipment that provides way more pros than cons. It's light weight and easy to use but carries the weight of responsibility. Works well with the app.

Lots of functionality in a small package. Use for snowmobiling and skiing deep in the backcountry. Messaging/SOS was the priority, but like that it doubles as a secondary GPS. Large buttons for use with gloved hands. Good phone app user interface for messaging and map viewing.

Had I given this device an earlier review, I would have likely given it a 4/5 rather than a 5/5 because of the time it takes to type out messages. The last time I needed to contact someone for an emergency evac, it looks me 5-10 minutes to type a simple message. Recently, however, Garmin put out a new messenger app that allows your to pair your InReach device with your phone. Because if this, you can easily send preset messages and use your phone's keyboard to type out new ones. This device really gives you the piece of mind you need when heading into the back country.

Perfect device. Small, lightweight and effective. Connected flawlessly to send texts when I was off the grid in AZ elk hunting. Looking forward to having it on future remote adventures.
