The In Reach Mini has become an essential part of our kit whenever in the backcountry and whatever we are doing. The factory clip came undone and it fell in the snow, luckily I saw it happen...so 4 star because we almost lost it on our third adventure with it. This item is essential for anyone from beginner to expert that will be spending time in remote areas.

Simple, easy to set up and great for sending the trip check-ins with preset messages. Never had an issue getting something out and the charge lasts for awhile if you don't have tracking on.

I've used an orange competitor before... it might take 20-30 min to send a check in message. With the inreach it's less than a minute!! Used it offshore and in the mountains. Awesome

Very Useful for Solo Travelers
on May 5, 2023

I carried this recently during a six-day solo paddling trip. This is the first time I carried such a device and frankly, it was a comfort. I stayed in touch with my two emergency contacts and used it to record my track for analysis upon reaching home. Paired with my phone it was a breeze to use. My one gripe is that the SOS function should be functional whether or not you have an active subscription. That seems like a bare minimum Garmin could extend to their device owners.

I've thankfully not yet had to make an SOS call with this device, but I trust I will be able to rely on it. This little device is always attached to my pack when I'm hiking, backpacking, and climbing - if I am wandering anywhere off the beaten path this is coming with me. The subscription costs money, sure, but it's worth it and it can be paused whenever it's not needed. Weather reports are extremely important to me, so I opt for the subscription level that allows me to ping for as many weather reports as I desire. Being able to message friends and family while in the backcountry is fantastic, it works very well through the app. Even using the tracking mode at a 30 minute interval for a 2 week period, the battery had plenty of life to spare at the end of the trip. I appreciate that I can pair this with my Garmin watches, allowing me to call for SOS thru the device even if I am separated from the pack it is attached to.
