Locked in monthly prescription is off the charts. Crazy expensive and if you want to cancel before 12 months there is a fee.

The inReach is both very beneficial and easy to use. It came in handy on a backwoods bear hunt in Canada. It's super handy being able to pair with your phone, that way you're not stuck trying to type out messages one letter at a time. The battery life was exceptional. I used it for 4 days and never got below 80% battery. This was my first product of this kind and I would not hesitate to buy again.

Should have purchased long ago

I took this device to some very remote sections of Alaska and was able to communicate with friends and family, while also having a sense of security in case of any unforeseen emergencies.

Convenient and effective

I bought this to communicate and allow tracking while traveling (hiking, biking, paddling) in remote areas. It does that very well. It has some navigation capabilities, but they are very basic and I prefer a dedicated GPS/map setup for that. Battery life is good, it lasted over a day with tracking on. Heavy tree cover (common in the southeast US) can cause some connection faults, but it always eventually reconnects. I've been very happy with it so far, easy to throw in my bag even for short hikes when I don't think anything is going to happen, but I'd be very glad to be able to call for help if needed.
The subscription can be a little confusing, but the year-long plan is convenient to "set and forget" so you'll always have service.

It's a really handy device. I use it to get weather/river flow updates from my friends and family. It's also cool to use the tracking to see where you've been.

Worth the upgrade
on July 2, 2023

I had the 1st gen Mini and it worked great, but I decided to upgrade to the newer second generation. First, the integrated messenger is a huge upgrade. The ability to use the same messenger app while on Wi-Fi or cell coverage without using satellite messages is a huge plus. But what I am most impressed with is the battery life four days of hiking and I was still over 50%, much better than the original version. The first gen is still a great product for the weekend warrior, but if you do anything more than a couple of days in length on a regular basis, the gen 2 is well worth the upgrade.
