This unit worked perfectly on my latest Colorado backcountry elk hunt. The satellite communication was easy to use and the tracking made it easy to return to base camp each evening.

Great technology to have in remote areas where there isn't cell service. My only complaint is that it's not easy to lend to a family member if they want to use it with the Garmin Messenger App.

My cousin and I went on an 1100 mile dirt bike trip through VT, NH and ME this summer. We were in some VERY remote spots deep, in the woods. It still allowed us to check in each day and let our family know that we were ok. Luckily we didn't have to use it to it's full potential, and hopefully never will.
If you're an occasional user like myself, their plans allow for it to start/stop at your convenience. With a nominal fee of course. But it's a great peace of mind when I carry it.

Great setup and my family loves that they can check in throughout my trips to see where I am. Some of the settings take some adjustments to work as intended, but I got things figured out after the first trip. I wish the subscription was cheaper, but that's true with every subscription.

As a solo backpacker and hiker, this is a key piece of gear that I'm glad I purchased. Makes me feel that much more comfortable when in the backcountry.

In the Iditarod Trail Invitational last year (1000 mile bike race in Alaskan wilderness), it allowed me to maintain communication with the outside world.
