Love these garbage cans but...

I love this garbage can, it is streamline inside so it is easy to clean however this is my third in three years. Yes, I am a fan of homecooked meals and my garbage can gets a work-out, however, the foot pedal mechanism can be built more durable if made from stainless steel and not hard plastic. Please make these more durable!

Stylish & Practical

I had another simplehuman stainless trash can for over 13 years and I’m passing it down to my daughter. I bought this one based on color, slimness, and pedal being on front. My last one was for a different kitchen design and I made it work for many years in my current kitchen but when I saw this model I knew it was time to change. I’m glad I bought this. It has the same inside space (or more) and is more practical. I also bought the bags which are very high quality and I’ll likely continue to buy them.

Best can ever and I’m 56 years old, ease of use and adds appeal to the space in stainless. Love it so much I bought two of them.

I decided to free up more cabinet space and have a waste receptacle in view. It is sleek and wipes clean easily.

Great slim size step can and custom sized bags are the perfect combination. N bags are sturdy and hold quite a bit.

Owning this trash can has been a beautiful, but moving experience.

I thought this dark bronze trash can would add a touch of class to our kitchen when I ordered it and it did just that. It looks so much better than the plastic one we had in the kitchen for 15 years that I'm actually proud to display the trash can openly in the kitchen.
The build quality seems very good. The pedal feels solid and operates very smoothly. I'm confident it will last for many years without any trouble.
Stepping on the pedal lifts the lid. To insert a trash bag, you also have to manually lift a color-coordinated plastic ring that goes around the top edge of the can. You then insert the trash bag while stepping on the pedal with your foot and manually holding up the plastic ring. This takes a little getting used to. I was initially felling like I wanted to be able to completely remove the lid and ring to make it easier to insert the bag. It just felt a bit awkward trying to insert the bag under the ring and over the can lip at the same time. After several bag changes, it's not so bad now.
The big disappointment about this trash can is that it moves backwards every time you step on the metal pedal. We have a linoleum floor with a bit of texture and this can slides across the surface very easily. My wife and I were constantly pulling the can back into place. It even slid back against the wall at one point (about 6 inches behind the trash can). Not realizing it was against the wall, my wife stepped on the pedal to throw something away, which then scratched the wall and scraped-off some of the bronze paint off of the edge of the can lid. When you pay big money for a trash can like this one, you would expect problems like this to be remedied before releasing it to the consumer. Out of frustration, I bought 1-inch round Scotch gripping pads and applied them to the rubber feed of this trash can. It helped, but now the trash can was tilting forward slightly when stepping on the pedal. I then took-out the trash bag, put some thin bubble-wrap padding inside the back bottom of the can to protect the finish, then carefully placed a round, steel 8.8 lb. weight from an unused workout set on top of the padding to keep the back of the trash can firmly on the ground when stepping on the pedal. The weight can't be seen when the trash bag is in place. Now this gorgeous trash can stays put and we don't have to constantly pick it up and put it back in it's place. It worked, but I expected it to stay in place as-is, right out of the box. This was a major inconvenience, as it made the trash can high maintenance, unexpectedly. All is well now.

To change the liner of the trash can, simply pull open on the lid and the trim at the same time until it locks into place. Pressing on the pedal is not needed for this step.
