Works well, could be even better

The shape and depth of the can are what I was looking for. However the depth of the can is less than the area of the lid. As a consequence, it tends to back up to the wall and lean forward slightly. Also the bag of the can has an unnecessary pocket to store additional garbage bags. This pocket is accessible from instead the can. However, it creates a recess inside the can which causes the garbage to get stuck if your garbage bag is really full. Eliminate the hole in the can for storing garbage bags and have the top of the can be the same depth as the can itself and then you get the 5th star.

plastic lid isn't durable

2nd simplehuman plastic lid trash can, the other lid was tough but the hinge broke and this is the newer style. The lid started squeaking everytime it opened, so I cleaned it, then ended up putting some silicone lube on it - well the lid now has streaks as the plastic stains easily. It looks like the hinges were crying....avoid the plastic lid. the plastic isn't as durable as the older models.

Too big

I wish this came in a smaller size. Im currently a household of one and my garbage can doesn’t fill up quickly enough. Thanks to composting and recycling. The smell stays contained in the can but every time I open it it’s pretty bad. I end up having to throw out a barely filled garbage bag. Wasteful.

Best trash can I've had or ever seen for in-home.

This is my 3ᴿᴰ or 4ᵀᴴ high quality, stainless steel kitchen garbage receptacle and this one is by far the easiest to rebag and you can leave it against a wall because the lid lifts gently and quietly without contacting the wall behind or anything. This 45L size fits 13-gallon trash bags perfectly so it would work well with anything larger than about 11-gallons, I would guess. The step feels solid and the lid is silent and closes very gently. The liner isn’t visible either, because there is a trim piece that covers it, so it looks very nice.
