simplehuman Trash Can Warranty

Simplehuman definitely offers the best quality products all the way around. Purchased chrome trash can about 8 years ago with a 10 year warranty. Not only did they abide by the warranty but knew I was moving and delivered a new trash can within a week or less!!

Was on the hunt for the perfect trashcan to go with my champagne bronze fixtures and handles in my kitchen. This is the Cadillac of trashcans. Love it so much, could never go back.

We love our new trash

We love our new trash can because of the three “p’s”. It is pretty- looks exceptional in our space. It is practical- the size of both bins suit the needs of the two of us for a week well. It is perfect- it is the right height, depth, and width. As always Simplehuman products are designed beautifully.

Extremely Disappointed – Longtime Simplehuman Customer

Hello Simplehuman Support,
I’m writing because I’m genuinely frustrated with the 58L Step Recycler we purchased, especially given how long I’ve been a loyal Simplehuman customer.
We bought our first Simplehuman trash can when we moved into our first house, and it lasted more than 16 years before it finally stopped working. That experience is exactly why I didn’t hesitate to buy another Simplehuman — I expected the same quality and thoughtful design.
Unfortunately, this trash/recycling combo has been a big letdown.
You describe your products as being “obsessive over every detail,” but there are two major issues that make this can really unpleasant to use day to day.
The first is the trash bags constantly falling into the can. It’s rare that I can take the trash out cleanly without having to dig into the can to find the liner, usually with trash having slipped through the cracks. I even bought the Simplehuman proprietary bags to see if that would help, and it didn’t. This feels like a basic design problem that shouldn’t exist at this price point.
The second issue is capacity. Both the trash and recycling sides are just too small to be practical. With only two adults and one child, we can’t make it through a week without emptying it at least three times. I understand the dimensions are listed, but there’s really no way to know if something like this will actually work in a real household until you’ve lived with it. Had I known how impractical the capacity would be, I never would have bought the combo unit.
I also waited a long time for the matte black version to come back in stock, fully expecting this to be a “forever” trash can like our last one. We spent a lot of money on it, and I kept trying to convince myself I’d eventually love it — but instead, I’ve just grown more frustrated over time.
At this point, I’m pretty disappointed and would like to know what options are available to make this right, whether that’s a return, refund, or another solution.

Good but Materials Could Be Improved

This trash+recycling can is the perfect size and setup for my family's usage patterns and for our kitchen. The main drawback is that the lid lift mechanism has plastic parts that will wear out in a few years and cannot be repaired. (This is why we just had to buy a new one. ) If the company made these parts out of metal, then this trash can would be perfect, and last much longer. I despise adding to landfills and creating more plastic waste, so I encourage the company to improve these products by making the moving parts especially out of longer-lasting materials. Ours came with the metal exterior dented badly in a few places, but we were able to fix most of the dents by applying gentle pressure from the inside.
