The X1 carbon is a much hyped laptop but in my experience it did not live up to the hype. Not only did I detect coil whine but the fan noise was excessive even though the performance of the Core 5 Ultra 125U processor was erratic, sometimes sufficient & sometimes quite slow running Windows. Finally when I booted a live Debian Linux thumb drive the performance improved but the trackpad wasn’t supported.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a replacement (anticipating higher prices due to Trump's tariffs/taxes) for a 2019 ThinkPad that has served me very well. My only nitpick is with why Lenovo decided to swap the CTRL and FN keys (so that CTRL is now to the left of FN). I know that I can re-assign the functions, but I don't think I can manually swap the keys themselves.
More generally, I love the ThinkPad, and use it as my sole PC. I can easily carry it from my home office to living room to meetings. I do have an external DVD reader and a second (compact) screen in my office set-up. And the keyboard is fabulous, setting aside the current "improvement."
I would recommend this to a friend!
