It's perfect and it somewhat takes me back to the feel of the IBM Selectric. Love it and my typing is faster and more accurate. For those who don't like the light patterns, there is a way of turning them off. In the manual: Hold the 'backlight pattern key for five seconds' .
I was looking for a mechanical keyboard to use with my Mac laptop and monitor. This one does everything that I need without extra bells and whistles that increase complexity and can create problems. I find helpful the lighting option that flashes the key that is being pressed.
Second keyboard for me, but second to none in quality!

I looked into this because I have been going through a phase of addiction to mechanical keyboards and made the purchase because Satechi has a strong track record of quality. I like the low profile, but the mechanical keys are still solid. They have the actuation and feel of a full size mechanical, but have the "thocky" audio feedback of bigger more linear keycaps. It's easy to carry but has a substantial and stable feel. Connectivity is very good and allows easy switching between multiple devices. The style and value of the keyboard at the price are perfect. I would definitely recommend that others with home and mobile setups look into the SM1 as a comparable, more economical option than other brands on the market, including the Apple ones.
