Who asked for backlight animations?

The sound and feel of the keys are what I expected from a mechanical keyboard. However, the backlighting feature is absolutely worthless. The animated patterns are a cute gag for demonstrations but distracting during normal use. I expected an on setting with levels of brightness that remained static and an off setting. What I got was a series of freaked-out flashing keys of no practical value. And, no backlighting option as described above. Also, poor placement of a keyboard key (prime real estate) for switching among illuminations causes unintended backlight effects when I don't want them. At which point, I have to cycle through them until I find either "light up one key when pressed" or my preference "no backlighting at all." To be honest, I almost returned the unit, given my frustration at your undocumented list of animated lights (not in the included docs or your web site).

The first day I got worried since the keyboard had a lot of delay while typing. I write kind of fast on a keyboard. But after making a reboot (MacBook) the performance got better. Now I don't feel any lag. The sound and performance are good. It's my first (new gen) mechanical keyboard, and I come from using macbook's and Logi MX Master mini extensively. It takes a bit to get used to some key placements (like not having an OPT button on the right side of the spacebar, or having the FN button in the middle of the right half) but overall the keyboard is as expected. I miss not having a specific button for the selective snapshot to the clipboard (what you get is a full printscreen that saves to a file) since is one feature I can customize in the Logi MX.Overall performance is good. I write in Spanish with accents and the US-International setup has no issues in the Mac. For writing in the iPad is something else but I've found that this issue with the accents keyboard mapping is a ipadOS/iphoneOS config issue, rather than keyboards.

Best Backlit Mechanical Keyboard in the Market! Look no further!

I, admittedly, have shopaholic problem with purchasing mechanical keyboards in the last decade and so when i decided to purchase Satechi's SM1 keyboard I was adding it to a list of many that I have purchased but with previous keyboards have grown bored of them and moved them into my home office closet only to move onto the next and so on. Im the sort of Goldie Locks character looking for JUST the right one. Well, I have finally found THE ONE keyboard that is The Right One! I have purchased this a couple weeks ago and typing this review utilizing it now in fact and its by far the best user experience bar none! The several backlit options it provides are fun, expansive and not boring NOR distracting at all. The lightweight travel it provides and the compact slim build is amazing yet it still satisfies the ubiquitous clicky yet adequate keyboard strokes you'd expect from a mechanical keyboard. Truly impressed and i'll definitely be sticking around the SATECHI brand for more great products for years to come!

Aesthetically pleasing. Love the keycap profile and satisfying feel of the switches. Very easy to connect via BT. However, one of my Windows computers constantly loses BT connection to this keyboard. No other device I've tried it with has exhibited this problem. I have a slight annoyance with the placement of the "Backlight pattern key." It is very easy to press when stretching for "del" in the upper right corner. I wish this key was either mapped behind Fn or placed somewhere less prone to misclicks (or disableable!)

I’ve tried quite a number of mechanical keyboard, including ones from Ducky, Drop, Razer, Logitech, and Lofree. This is the best. The Lofree comes close, but doesn’t handle backlighting as well. This is the right size, has the right key movement and response, and has the right look.

I’m a bit of a keyboard nerd. I learned to type eons ago on a mechanical keyboard. I was fast and accurate. I love Apple’s minimalist aesthetic, but I find myself error-prone on flat, chiclet-style keyboards. I’ve tried several options, looking specifically for key feel. I’ve had the Satechi SM1 only a week—definitely not time for an in-depth evaluation—and I like it. The keys are well defined, each surface is lightly concave so my fingers stay where I put them, and the typing feel is buttery, which is what I want. It has the clickety-clack of a mechanical keyboard, but the sound is somehow softer than the others. Key travel is roughly 2.5 mm, which is maybe 1 mm deeper than Apple’s chiclet keys. Honestly, it’s too early for a recommendation, but I can say that I’ve been looking forward each day to typing with it, so I’ll give it a nice thumbs-up!
