As a retired computer/communication technician I have been professionally involved and fascinated with electric-mechanical machines since the mid '60's. I had a bunch of white work socks that needed the elastic in the cuff(?) replaced. My hands ache from arthritis so I decided to try a sewing machine. After much research I decided to purchase the Brother CS7205 based on its features and the price, plus previous experience with Brother products. Other than hand-sewing fishing nets and canvas tarps and tents I hadn't any previous experience with sewing. I downloaded the manuals and studied them before the CS7205 was delivered so I felt I was ready to thread-up and go. The manuals were perfect for getting me prepared; easy to read/understand and they completely cover everything I needed to know. A pat on the back to the manual writers and editors for properly preparing me. I was also pleased with all the included accessories; bobbins, tools, sewing feet, etc...
The machine itself is perfect. It performed exactly how I expected to. I was able to install new elastic in my old, expensive, work socks without any help. My socks are size 15 and not readily available so salvaging them was important to me. One size fits all is a lie. My feet are as big as a '58 Cadillac and good socks are not cheap. I am going to continue repairing some shirts, jackets and pants. This has been a positive experience for me and I am very pleased with the machine. I would have rated it five star, but I have nothing to compare it to.

Easiest sewing machine ever

I bought this machine to replace a 30 year old Sonata by Singer, mainly because I couldn't see to thread it any more. When I started researching, I discovered very quickly all the tasks this particular machine could perform. I've always wanted to take up quilting and am currently working on some projects for our RV. My husband is thrilled that some of his shirts will again have buttons on them because of the button foot.
I love that it has an "automatic" threader which has really helped my old eyes. The diagrams for threading the bobbin and the machine itself are very straightforward. It took me a couple tries to thread it, but now, I have the hang of it. It also took me a couple of tries to get the walking foot attached, but that is more due to me than the machine.
One of the things that I didn't expect to love as much is the ability to not use the foot pedal. My sewing machine is on the counter in my craft room, and while I normally use a drafting chair when I am crafting, with the ability to stand and sew, I find it easier than getting on and off the chair.

I went from a Broth XL 3022 that was my mom’s that a learned how to sew on that still sews as if it was brand new, to now the CS7205, I love both machines and to this day still use the XL 3022, but the SC7205 is much more advanced and makes sewing faster and so much harder to mess up the machine it will tell me flat out if I forgot something like oops no bobbin, hey need to put that foot down first; I know simple but sometimes you just forget, cleaning is a breeze, I’m in love with all the different stitches and yes I use them all hard to believe but they are so much fun and with the machine telling what foot I need is so helpful, the LED light I love, it’s so easy to see what I’m doing without extra lights I thought I hate the way the bobbin sits but I have had no jams and it’s so much better then I thought it would be. I tend to sew thick items like jeans and it’s like butter just remember to use the right needle and don’t be afraid to use the walking foot on thicker projects what a difference that made. Over all 10 out of 10. Just because it’s under quilting dose not mean you limited to just that, I love sewing, but I hate quilting I have done it on this machine because a friend wanted a quilted apron, it came out perfect but man I have no passion to quilt, but this machine made it very easy for me quilt.

This is my first "new" sewing machine

I have been sewing for only 2 years, and been using vintage 1954 to antique 1881 sewing machines. I've made numerous quilts with them, but decided I needed a modern machine that has more than 1 stitch. I've had this machine for three weeks and have in my spare time made appliques for 3 quilts. As a novice sewing person this is an excellent choice.

Good machine

This machine was a good price for all that it does. There are lots of stitches, it seems to sew well even though I've only sewn a little on it. The one thing I don't like is that the automatic needle threader is very hard to work. If you don't have the needle in an exact position then it won't thread. And then sometimes it still does not do it. Very frustrating! It needs to work easier so that is one drawback to this machine.

Many stitches, a few design wishes

I love the assortment of stitches and how lightweight this machine is. I dislike the light, which is basically useless, and the little storage compartment, which must be completely removed from the machine to access. I’m eager to spend more time exploring what this machine can do, but I’m also hanging on to my 40-year-old Kenmore, just in case this one turns out to be a bust!

Not great but not terrible

I liked this machine very much at first. Until i tried doing a straight stitch. 100% unable to do a straight stitch as the bottom stitching looks like a dang birds nest. Can’t do a zigzag stitch as it then knots and locks and tangles together under the presser foot. I am beyond frustrated at this point. Oh! And the bobbin cover is broken and keeps jumping up, it broke due to the knotted thread
