I bought this because in general the Garmin ecosystem suits me well. However I have had several 530 devices that had constant intermittent glitches (fail to upload files, intermittent disconnection of sensors) that Garmin Support was never able to resolve. I have only been using the 540 for a couple of weeks but so far I have not experienced any of the glitches of the 530. I like how easy it was to transfer the sensor information from the 530 to the 540 and find the interface through the phone to be much improved. I hope my positive experience continues.
I bought this about a month ago. Love all the features but it seems very clunky to navigate with the buttons. Wondering if I should have upgraded to the touch screen version because this has been a bit frustrating. Salesman at the store said it was not worth it but I am thinking they were wrong. Great features but I am not sure I will get to them solely using the buttons to navigate the features.
I upgraded from the 130 plus as I wanted greater features, which I love. One negative is turning it off. I should be able to push a button and it goes off. If I have to answer a few questions like when I restart a computer, fine. But having to navigate to find where to stop the timer is cumbersome and irritating. I pushed the power button. You do the work.
I just got mine and have used it several times and like it. I'm still working out some of its potential. Unfortunately, Garmin does not provide much in the way of literature that instructs the user on how to unlock all it potential and value. Going to online videos help, but only marginally so. Lots of trial and error and sitting down and pushing buttons.
my fellow cyclists have a Garmin edge and they all love it, so I decided to give it a try. I am glad I did. I had to play with it for a while to get the screen set up the way I like, but it was worth it. Now I know What I need to improve my riding skills. I like the cadence feature with my speed to know how I am doing. My salesman uses the power feature and was showing me how he gaged his endurance training.
`i love it to be quite frank…its nice to have a stand alone unit (non phone)…unfortunately i crashed really bad and had to have plates and screws installed on my upper humerus…in that bad crash not even a scratch on my edge 540…so its quite durable as well…the bike alarm leaves a bit more to be desired as its marginally louder than a field mouse farting contest…all in all i like the unit…i do recommend this unit for sure
