Mixed Bag Mostly Good

When trying to set up a wide screen monitor for both a Mac mini and a Windows laptop was harder than expected. This was an easy set up before getting the dock, but was a challenge that I am only figuring out a couple of weeks in. I think it has a lot of great features and I love their products at Anker. I do not have a final verdict on this one though. I do like the power supply in the unit.

Its a good dock

Its 95% there. I think the LED is about 80% too bright, and my monitor doesn't always wake up so I have to open the laptop and close it for my external monitor to work. Outside of those 2 small issues its a good dock.

4 star when it works.

It works well when it actually works, but it doesn't complete the handshake when I first turn it on and I have to mess with the cords to get it going. I had to buy more attachments to get the dual monitor going. I'm not mad about that, but it would have been nice to know up front. Not sure why it needs to be on, if it works without it.

Loud Surprise!!

First of all, this little dock does everything it says it does. Great packaging, feels quality, no heat issues, very pleased. Today, I was lamenting about also organizing my tube DAC/AMP while doing some tasks for the corporate overlords that pay me, when I thought I'd temporarily plug my overear cans into the Anker until I figured my cables... well to my surprise the sound was CRISP and LOUD and surprisingly lacking in noise/distortion. I consider myself audiophile light, I hate how most compressed music sounds and can hear distortion when something is driven past its comfort zone, .but I'm not a super geek about it. That said, this little amp was good enough sound that I felt like I got an extra Christmas today. I asked my desk co-pilot (chatgpt) to look it up and sure enough there is a KTMicro KT02F20 chip in a QFN36 package installed in this baby. On the mac you can open midi controls and turn up the format to 24 bit 96 kHz and JAM. Hopefully you're using Tidal or something better if you're streaming and tune your settings there as well. It's good enough I'm taking my fancy little tube DAC/AMP combo to a lounge spot in the house to further clean up the desk. Nice work Anker. As usual marketing misses the magic put forth by the engineers... classic. If there is any info about the audio on the website I couldn't find it anyway.

It looks great and works flawless as well. I love this setup when I just have to connect one cable to laptop and all system go. I use it with Macbook Pro M4 and drive 4 external monitors:
1. HDMI
2. TB
3. DisplayLink
4. DisplayLink

This dock is the best. Ive tried other docks and this one has it all! Fast TB5 speeds - CHECK, multiple TB5 ports - CHECK, HMDI port - CHECK, card readers - CHECK,and cool lighting effect - BONUS! I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an All-In-One dock. You can trust the Anker brand.

Not quite there yet

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad L15 Gen 4 that I have used before with the Lenovo dock and been able to hook up 3 external monitors to it and run with no issues. 2 connected via DP and 1 connected via HDMI. This was my work set up until I was transferred and got downgraded in workstation environment to a "rotational desk" with only one external monitor, but still using the Lenovo dock and USB C.
At home I have been using a j5Create 2 monitor hub and that has been working except it wouldn't recognized the 2nd monitor every now and again. The fix was to unplug and plug the monitor back in, and voila, it worked. Two 32" Samsung monitors connected via HDMI to the J5Create hub with a little 6" tail that connected to my computer via USB C.
With this dock, I have two cables connected to my computer. The dock and the monitor cable (either USB C or HDMI, depending on how I am feeling that day) in order for me to have a multi monitor setup.
So while the product looks good and has some great specs, its not quite there yet. Mind you, all of these set ups are with laptop closed and using the USB C port on my computer. I have two and have used either or in the past. With this dock, I have tried both with my second monitor hooked up to the dock via an Anker HDMI to USB C cable and it does not work. Again, the only way to get multiple monitors while using this docking station on this computer, is having a 2nd cable attached to my computer.
So again, for the price, this dock is not quite there to what it should be when I can get something (maybe not as many features) for cheaper.
