We have had our Airdog X8 for a few weeks now & let me tell you....my husband & I went from being miserable with head cold symptoms due to heavy wildfire smoke (AQI outside was ~200 for several weeks) to feeling right as rain (which would've helped the wildfires) in just a couple of days. We plugged in our Airdog in the evening & the AQI was reading 150, by the morning it was down to 13! This was in the downstairs of our house, ~1800sqft. It has kept the AQI down significantly (at the worst times outside it only got to 50 in our house, only for a short time before I dropped again) & consistently. We have not yet gone through the collection plate cleaning process, but from reading about it & watching videos it looks pretty simple. My one improvement for the company would be more detailed instructions, descriptions & exactly how to use each part (like the removable AQI gauge). We were able to look up videos on Youtube of others who figured it out more than we could, but it would be nice for that to be included with the product. Still, a very minor inconvenience for major life changing air quality! The price is worth it, you will not beat yourself up next time you are breathing easy during wildfire season while the Airdog-less houses deal with burning sinuses & insane fatigue (or worse if you're sensitive!). The air you breath matters a LOT, invest in your health with this product!!
I found the instructions were very poorly written. I also found it impossible to get the Airdog app to work on my iPhone. Plus the YouTube videos were not very helpful. Finally not to pile on too much, but the air purifier is a lot noisier than I thought it would be.
I have been running it now about 6 months in a home with open floor plan. It detects cooking fumes easily. At baseline it is running very quietly. When it is dirty and needs cleaning it will start making crackling noise. This is roughly monthly in my home, it will depend of course on the environment. The collecting plate will have dark dust on it that rinses of well in hot water. The wire frame picks up lot of dust as well. The wire frame is a more fragile part of the airdog and only needs to be wiped down. There are a couple of pre-filters on each side that need vacuumed every once in a while. The only true negative is that the collecting plate has to dry for 24hrs after washing during which the unit is out of commission.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have several airdog's in our house (3 of the X5's and 1 of the X8's) and they have been flawless for years now. The air in the rooms is noticeable, especially with the smoke in the air during fire season or with dogs sleeping in our rooms. The X8 is an amazing piece of engineering and does a great job in larger rooms. We love how easy it is to maintain and appreciate not having to buy filters all the time like other brands. In summary, we love the airdogs and highly recommend it to anyone who wants cleaner air!
What difference the air dog has made. Such a difference in such little time. Have pets and it has really freshened up the air inside my home without toxic chemicals
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought mine in December 2021. Airdog has been easy to work with even outside of the warranty period. I used my FSA to purchase the unit. I have asthma and sinus problems. Back in 2023, it was highly effective and reduced the smoke from Canadian wildfires. Even in downstate Illinois, you see the haze in the air. The only thing I would change I would have bought two smaller units one for the living room and one for the master bedroom. When the neighbors burn stuff and the wind is out of the southeast I can smell it even with windows closed. I have to leave my bedroom door open to have filtered the air. If they made a whole house HVAC filter unit I would consider that.
