Heavy Duty with a plastic foot pedal, Really?

I have been using a 1961 Singer 503a for the past 15 years, so my opinion may be a bit biased. My brother and his wife have been wanting to gift me a new sewing machine for years, so I finally gave in and chose the 4432 in black. It was supposed to be simple to use, but I find myself referring to the owner's manual most of the time. Transitioning from a heavy metal machine to a lightweight one has been quite a challenge for me. I am not a fan of the plastic foot pedal (foot speed control). I have fears of braking some of these "Heavy Duty" pieces. I am still struggling to find the "Extra High Presser Foot" and have difficulty removing the bobbin cover without working around the pressure foot. I have been threading the needle myself and wind bobbins on a bobbin winder probable due to lack of patience. I find that it sews slowly, I am not a fan of the location of the reverse lever, and I do not like using the horizontal spool pin.

Not Heavy Duty.

I bought this machine three years ago and it does the job. The only exception is the 'Heavy Duty' part; the foot does not really raise higher than a regular machine and it struggles with two layers of denim. Out of curiosity I tried leather (2mm) and my machine sounded like it was dying. However, for everyday use, it is a great machine.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I had such high hope for this machine. I've had it less than a month. I have tried everything suggested in the instruction manual for jamming thread, but nothing corrects it. I have no idea where the clunking sound is coming from. There is no authorized Singer repair in Oklahoma, and I have a deadline to make. It is "mechanical" but there are no places to add oil for this "mechanical" sewing machine. The machine is fairly easy to use. It would be a good value if it worked properly.

Love the way this machine sews. Very easy sewing, performs great........no problems so far!! The ease of Button hole making is a breeze.......one step and your done! I would recommend Singer Model 4432 to purchase very very good working machine!! This was going to be my back up sewing machine......but it will be my first choice and the other Singer machine will be my back up one...........Happy Sewing to all!!

With the virus, and so many places requiring facial masks, I felt I had to do my share of playing in forward in making the masks and head wraps for this community. I needed to purchase a sewing machine, and always owned Singer. I am so please and the most fantastic thing about this machine is the needle threader. Even in my teenager years threading a machine was difficult, and not many years later, I dreaded having to conquer the needle threader. When I purchased the machine, I did not know of this terrific detail, and when I read the instructions on threading the machine and came to this feature, I yelled for joy. The machine sews perfectly, and I am very happy with the purchase and highly recommend to anyone looking for a new machine. Plus I thought the price was reasonable.

This machine is awful for me

My grandmother loves hers, but I think mine is defective, it doesn’t work well. I have to fix a problem every 2 minutes at most, on avg every 30 seconds. Everything in me wants to break this machine, but I’d rather send it back and get money, although destruction would be much more satisfying. I am not new to sewing, I’d say I’m about average at it, but this 1 hour long project has already taken me weeks because I hate this machine and don’t want to use it, because stops working every single minute.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
