I had a unit like this which for some reason failed after a couple of years but within warranty period. Black + Decker didn’t hesitate and asked me to send the unit back to them so that they could replace it. Within days we received a brand new unit which has been working very well for a couple of months now without any issues. Truly a ply and play powerful unit that keeps the space it is in perfectly conditioned and on temperature.
Overall the product works well! Bought for a small one bedroom in-law suite that currently has one window ac unit and no heating unit (about 420sqft). I was considering installing a split unit but decided to go with this instead- happy I did with this being more affordable and portable.
Pros: - portable with casters - easy install - affordable for a heating and cooling unit - heat mode works quickly
Cons: - slight gapping on hose hookup (doesn’t seem to seal tightly), can feel cold air coming in. - low mode isn’t as quiet as hoped, especially for a bedroom set up.
Even though summer is over, my engine runs hot, and I usually like AC on during October and some of November, the compressor WOULD NOT kick on to cool. I am going to school for this, so I know how the thermostat SHOULD work, which it’s not. The heating feature doesn’t seem to work even if I needed it. It still has stickers on it, I will need to tickle this warranty a bit if I can’t get all sides of this beast to work as it should.
The heat isn’t working in my house and this has been able to keep the entire house warm enough to be comfortable even though the house is bigger than 700 sq/ft. Haven’t tested the other modes since the first day, but they all seemed to work well too. Only complaint is that the drainage is too low on the device. Had to put together a stand to be able to drain it effectively. Not even a problem really, just not the best design for the space I have it in.
I was happy and appreciated the fact that I was still able to exchange my malfunctioning AC for a new one after having it for about 9 to 10 months, I wasn't given a hard time about it either, So.. Thanks.
