I chose the size based on the size of my bedroom and it does a great job of cooling it down so I can sleep for the shift work I do. It was easy to set up and the controls are easily understandable
I don't know how loud it is compared to other portable air conditioners but I haven't noticed it starting and stopping so the sound is constant and a sort of white noise. Which means it doesn't wake me up but the volume may be a concern for someone who is not able to sleep unless it is very quiet.
