Makes good coffee, here's a maintenance tip

My wife and I live off grid. We decided to try this out. It makes great coffee, and it does take a while to do it at 8,800 feet in altitude. It started to take even longer over time. That's when we noticed that the aluminum base plate had begun to warp. That plate is what acts as a heat shield/diffuser for the water tube underneath. To repair: turn it upside down (yes wait till it's cool) and remove the 10 screws. Take the base plate/heat diffuser off and lay it on something sorta soft (I use the wood deck outside). Then grab your trusty rubber mallet and make it all nice and flat again. Speeds up the coffee time appreciably. Just make sure to put it back the same way it came off.

Great Coffee

My buds and I have used this coffeemaker for over 10 years now and it never fails to produce a great cup of coffee. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that you can't use it to keep the coffee hot after it has finished brewing. I wish Coleman made a carry case for it, as the box it came in is about wore out.

We have been using 2 of these in mammoth lakes altitude 9000ft for years. They need cleaning out regularly to keep at steady flow other wise the serve the purpose

Bottom melted on Coleman camp stove

I've had mine less than a year and noticed that it was taking longer to make coffee. We have only ever used it on my camp stove. The bottom melted out of it. Not sure how my camp stove could get that hot.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

No problem

I have had 2 of these for about 12 yrs maybe longer. Use at deer camp and when I go racing never a problem. I also leave heat on very low when perked to help coffee stay hot longer. Never had any problems.

I've used this camping on a Coleman two burner stove and it makes excellent coffee. So much better than instant and really makes a difference on those chilly mornings.
