I paired a RF 200-800 with my Canon R6 mk 2 , ,for the 2025 Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona Fl, I was Very Impressed with the performance of this Budget Friendly lens . . Autofocus was Very Fast and Equally Accurate . . Image Quality was Equal to my RF 100-500 L when my 100-500 L images are Cropped to give the same size as RF 200-800 gives as shot . . Enclosed Images are all JPEG , the BMW M4 head on shot was taken at 800 mm , wide open at f9 , iso 320 at 1/1250 seconds. most shots between 675 - 725 mm range . . I will be taking this Lens and Camera back to Daytona March 8 , 2025 for the Motorcycle Races . .

Great Lens. Good to the full 800mm

This lens is awesome!!! I'm a plane photographer and bought it to replace my old Tamron 150-600mm. Unlike the Tamron, which basically was unusable after 500mm, this lens is good up to the full 800mm.
I also bought the 2.0 teleconverter. While I didn't have the opportunity to fully test it (The wind got too strong and I had to leave the location), the little but I got to use with the TC looks very promising.
I only gave it 4 stars for 2 reasons:
1. It's impossible to go from wide open to fully zoomed in one turn. You must turn it part way and reposition your hand to turn the rest. Not very ideal when you're following a bird or other unpredictable wildlife. 2. You can't put a filter on with the hood on. The hood doesn't fit over the filter, and you can't put the filter on after putting the hood on.
Would I buy again? Absolutely. Do I recommend it? Absolutely.

A very nice long telephoto zoom that has some benefits

It's a very nice long telephoto that drops back to manageable focal lengths for finding and composing. It's supported by the RF 2x teleconverter making the maximum 1600mm focal length as good a personal telescope, though the field of view is understandably much narrower than a telescope. But it's still possible to photograph Saturn with the rings visible. It's not too heavy but not really practical for common hand-held uses. I bought it to use instead of my RF800mm f/11 to get a stop faster and an adjustable aperture. Obviously two stops faster than the RF800mm f/11 when using the 2x teleconverter. On that basis it was worth the cost. I'm basing the review for now on astrophotography only but I intend to use it for long distance scenery as well.

Quality build, weight is manageable. I shoot handheld it is a little but heavier then a 150-600 but not a huge difference. Lens is extremly sharp and focus is fast. I use for birds in flight and have noticed my pictures in focus has more than doubled from my last telephoto lens. Happy with the reach as well. The F.9 just means i shot early in the morning now and in the evening it comes down to having 10 minutes less than a F.5 lens. The boca background is not an issue at F.9 most of the time it's completely blowned out.
