I’m giving the Canon RF16-28mm F2.8 IS STM lens 5 stars for its excellent combination of price, image quality, and performance. I’ve been using this lens for about a year, and it has become my go-to lens for many of my photography and video projects.
The quality of the glass is excellent, images are sharp, and the constant f/2.8 aperture makes it very versatile, especially in lower-light situations. For the price, I think Canon did an outstanding job with this lens.
After a year of regular use, I’m still extremely pleased with it and would definitely recommend the Canon RF16-28mm F2.8 IS STM to anyone looking for a high-quality, affordable wide-angle RF lens.

I’ve been using the RF 16-28mm f/2.8 IS STM on my Canon R10 for over a month now, and it’s quickly become a favorite. I’ve mainly shot landscapes, architecture, and a few portraits, and the lens looks, feels, and performs in a way that doesn’t seem far off from L-series quality. It’s sharp, handles low light better than I expected, and the f/2.8 aperture really helps capture great shots indoors or in challenging light.
I’m actually a little surprised this lens isn’t talked about more often given the value it offers. The image quality and portability make it a fantastic option for anyone who wants ultra-wide capability without L-series size and price.
It also pairs perfectly with my RF 35mm f/1.8 — together they cover almost everything I shoot. While 16mm on my crop-sensor R10 isn’t as ultra-wide as it would be on full frame, it’s still plenty wide for my needs, and the compact size and weight make up for that.
I’m looking forward to trying it for longer night exposures and astrophotography next, but so far this lens has exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended if you want a fast, light ultra-wide zoom that delivers excellent results.
Pros: • Consistently sharp and clear images at f/2.8 throughout • Very lightweight and travel-friendly • Excellent for landscape, architecture, and general wide-angle use • Complements my RF 35mm f/1.8 perfectly
Cons: • Crop sensor reduces ultra-wide effect a little • Not L-series, but still excellent quality
